| Cartoon Transcript: Top: "Dread public speaking? Use these popular techniques to fill up any length of time without ever addressing your topic!" Technique 1: Let the audience do the talking. A woman is standing behind a podium saying, "I'd like each of you to introduce yourself, describe your expectations for this talk, and then break into small groups to discuss your expectations." Technique 2: Describe your talk without giving it. A man in a suit is standing in front of a screen holding notes in front of him. He is saying, "Now that I've told you what points I plan to cover, explained my approach to the topic, and discussed my decision to create a PowerPoint presentation, I'll get started with... Oops, I see I'm out of time!" Technique 3: Talk about what you know, even if it's unrelated to your topic. A woman in a wheelchair with notes on her lap is saying, "This session is called 'Online Fundraising,' but my computer crashed, so instead I'm going to talk about 'Technical Support: Crisis in the Nonprofit Sector.'" | |
