SAN JOSE, April 14, 2003 – In collaboration with Community Foundation Silicon Valley and CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, Intuit Inc. will donate funds to assist local nonprofits in improving their internal financial expertise through The Intuit Foundation’s Nonprofit Financial Impact Initiative. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Intuit is piloting the program through The Intuit Foundation, a separate charitable giving organization established by the company.

“This initiative will help build the internal systems that many small and mid-sized public benefit agencies need for success,” said Peter Hero, president of Community Foundation Silicon Valley. "We praise Intuit for striving to make a difference.”

“Twenty years ago, Intuit was launched to transform the way people run their businesses and manage their financial lives,” said Laura Castaneda, executive director of The Intuit Foundation. “The Intuit Foundation’s Nonprofit Financial Impact Initiative is a great way to give back to the community. Through this program, we hope to make meaningful, long-term contributions to nonprofits by investing in their infrastructure and financial success.”

The Intuit Foundation’s initiative will provide five nonprofits with $40,000 in funding and services, including a comprehensive assessment of the nonprofit’s financial systems, technical assistance and development of a one-year work plan. The grant also includes funds to implement the work plan. Eligible nonprofits are those that work in the areas of economic development, micro-enterprise, or financial literacy that serve low-income or underserved communities. They must have budgets of $3 million or less and be located in Santa Clara, San Mateo, or San Francisco counties.

“In the current economic climate, nonprofits need assistance more than ever to ensure their survival,” said Jan Masaoka, executive director of CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. “Intuit’s commitment to promoting economic empowerment makes them a logical choice to lead this initiative.”

The Community Foundation will manage the grant application process and the evaluation of the project outcomes. CompassPoint will provide a comprehensive financial assessment and convene participants to share information, best practices, and successes and challenges. Information about the initiative and application forms are available through the website of Community Foundation Silicon Valley (http://www.cfsv.org). Recipients will be notified in June.
