| California Endowment President & CEO Addresses Bay Area Community Leaders at Nonprofit Day Conference | |
| 07-08-2002 | |
Contact: SAN FRANCISCO, July 8, 2002 – A survey done in October, 2001 of 413 California nonprofits found that safety-net, community organizations experienced a drop in donations and an increase in demand for services as a result of the economic downturn and events of September 11. On July 18, California Endowment President and CEO Robert K. Ross, M.D. will address this issue and other challenges facing today’s nonprofits at the annual Nonprofit Day Conference. Now in its 15th year, Nonprofit Day features presentations by leading experts in the field of emerging issues, executive leadership, human resources, boards and planning, fundraising, community outreach, technology and finance. Over 500 nonprofit executives, board members and community leaders are expected to attend Nonprofit Day, one of the largest conferences on nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ross will join Nonprofit Day to discuss the intensive public awareness campaign launched in December of last year by California Cares, a statewide coalition of philanthropic organizations working to help increase donations to local charities. This discussion will tie into a series of profiles of organizations that make a significant impact on the Bay Area community, and provide a funder’s perspective on the way nonprofits and their staff effect change. The Honorable Carole Migden will join the conference to address the impact of State Budget Cuts and what nonprofits can do to maneuver through the politics of government funding streams. CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, in partnership with ChevronTexaco, sponsors Nonprofit Day. Chevron, which merged with Texaco in October 2001, began the conference in 1988 to give nonprofit organizations the resources and tools with up-to-date technologies, trends and issues, leadership and management training to improve the effectiveness of the nonprofit sector in the communities. “Partnership is a core value for ChevronTexaco,” said Skip Rhodes, Manager, ChevronTexaco Corporate Contributions Involvement. “By providing leadership and management skills to the leaders of these nonprofit organizations, we are helping them to run their organizations better and more effectively. A stronger nonprofit means a healthier community.” Nonprofit Day will be held at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero in San Francisco from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m on July 18th. Fees for the conference are on a sliding scale from $75-$135 based on an organization’s budget size.
