COMPASSPOINT NONPROFIT SERVICES ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
03-15-2007

Jeanne Bell photoSan Francisco, CA -- CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, the nation’s premier consulting and training firm for nonprofit organizations, today announced the appointment of Jeanne Bell as its new Executive Director.

Jeanne’s selection was the result of an extensive search conducted by Morris & Berger—a leading nonprofit executive search firm. Their national outreach resulted in more than 100 candidates and six strong finalists.

“We are thrilled to have Jeanne at the helm,” said Joseph Valentine, chair of the board of directors for CompassPoint. “We are confident that Jeanne’s vision and leadership will result in a deepening of our impact in the nonprofit community regionally and across the country.” In selecting Jeanne, formerly CompassPoint’s Associate Director, the Board also exemplified one of the major emerging tenets in nonprofit leadership—recognizing and promoting talent from within.

Jeanne’s knowledge and experience have resulted in a breadth of significant work including publications such as Daring to Lead and Financial Leadership for Nonprofit Executives; hundreds of presentations on leadership, finance, and strategy around the country; and intensive consulting with critical community-based organizations. In all of these capacities, she has become well-known for her particular combination of insight and accessibility.

Over the last seven years, Jeanne worked closely with the board and staff at CompassPoint, overseeing finance and human resources, as well as developing and implementing programmatic strategies that extended CompassPoint’s position as a leader in capacity building to community-based nonprofits. In her new role, Jeanne will lead a diverse staff of more than 25 people, many of whom are nationally recognized experts, continuing the CompassPoint tradition of unique staff depth and shared leadership.

Prior to her tenure at CompassPoint, Jeanne served in a variety of management capacities in the Bay Area nonprofit sector. As a fundraiser, project manager, and administrative director for organizations including The Breast Cancer Fund and Family Service Agency of San Francisco, Jeanne developed a deep understanding of how community-based organizations work and the capacity-building they need to thrive.

Jeanne currently serves on the Advisory Boards of the Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management at the University of San Francisco and The Nonprofit Quarterly.
