PROGRAM OVERVIEW
|
Now in its fifth year, the Leadership Development Program for Executives Serving Transition-Age Youth was developed by CompassPoint with funding from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF) to address the changing needs of leadership professionals serving transition-age youth. To respond to these challenges, CompassPoint has developed a leadership program for executive directors, CEOs, and management team members of organizations serving transition-age youth. Transition-age youth are young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four who are in transition from state custody or foster care and are at-risk. To date this program has served close to sixty professionals throughout the state of California. |

I have not only learned concrete skills to be a better supervisor, manager and administrator, but I have learned HOW to think about my work to make myself a more effective leader… All this accomplished in the context of networking with an amazing group of colleagues. It has brought my leadership skills to a new level and I have been able to pass on these skills to the folks that I supervise. -Toby Eastman, Chief of Programs |
The program's current cohort is taking place from March 2012 to March 2013 in California. Twelve leaders (executive directors, CEOs, or management team members) have been selected to participate in this 12-month leadership program that trains and supports them to be more effective leaders and decision-makers.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Kick-Off Retreat
Twelve participants attend a three-day leadership retreat that provides an opportunity to learn new leadership skills, meet individual professional development goals, and network and share resources.
In-person Gathering
One in-person meeting takes place as a follow-up to the retreat. This component provides participants time to connect to their peers and receive training to continue their leadership development.
Webinars
Three webinars are scheduled over the course of the year. Webinars provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the content presented in the seminars. Topics and schedule are to be determined and will be responsive to participant needs.
Peer Coaching Calls
Facilitated peer coaching will allow participants to sustain connections and to share real-time challenges they are experiencing in their organizations.
Professional Development Funds
To reinforce training and provide on-going support, $1,000 in professional development funds will be provided to each participant to be used for coaching, consulting, and/or training. CompassPoint staff will provide one-on-one support to each participant to assist in their professional development planning.
360 Degree Assessment Tool
360 degree feedback provides insight into the way others perceive participant performance based on their workplace behaviors. Participants receive a one hour session to debrief the assessment results and to develop their individualized professional development plans based on the results.
Final Alumni and Peer Cohort Gathering
To encourage and support a growing and sustainable network of organizations in the TAY field, a 2-day alumni gathering will be provided at the end of the cohort program that allows alumni to re-connect for one day and then integrate into a second day with the incoming cohort.
