Kad Smith is part of CompassPoint's teacher team. He was previously Project Director at CompassPoint; during his time in this role, Kad helped to design and deliver leadership development programs such as the Next Generation Leaders of Color Inland Region, Black Equity Initiative, and the Organizational Equity Leadership Development Program.

Kad has 16 years of nonprofit experience in total, focusing on civic engagement, political education, climate justice, imagining the bridging of worldviews across the globe, and providing practical solutions while keeping an eye out for profound possibilities. He specializes in training and facilitation, leading teams through significant changes, and working with leaders who are seeking thought partnership in their leadership journeys. A native of West Berkeley, CA, Kad describes himself as a lifelong “bay-destrian.” He is most passionate about changing the material conditions of BIPOC folks across the country.

Kad currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Ecology Center in Berkeley, California, GreenPeace USA, and Community Works West. His civic service record includes appointments to the City of Berkeley’s Police Review Commission and Community Health Commission. Kad is currently in his second year of study at the University of San Francisco Law School, with plans to work in civil rights litigation and policy upon graduation.
